Nicole Davis is an Account Planner at imc2. Nicole has done work for Fortune 500 brands online including: Dr. Pepper/Seven Up, Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals (Sarafem), Wyndham Hotels and World Kitchen (Corelle, CorningWare). Prior to her position at imcÓ, Nicole worked in traditional advertising account management at DDB Needham and Publicis in Seattle, WA. Nicole is a graduate of the prestigious Miami Ad School Boot Camp for Account Planners. As the only internationally recognized program for account planners, Boot Camp is taught by a faculty of top planning directors and advertising executives from the U.S. and abroad. She graduated with honors from the University of Washington with a Bachelor in Business Administration and a concentration in Marketing.
Kate Eberhardt is an Account Planner at imc2. She has worked on brands online including Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals (Prozac), American Diabetes Association, Royal Neighbors of America, and Proctor & Gamble (Head & Shoulders). Previously, she was a Strategic Planner at Publicis, where she conducted primary and secondary research to assist in the creative development of television, print, radio, and outdoor advertising. Kate earned her bachelors degrees in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the University of Virginia.
Kim Goodwin, Director of Design at Cooper Interaction Design, believes that good software design takes equal doses of creativity and common sense. She has applied both to a variety of Cooper design projects, ranging from e-commerce applications to information appliances. Among her other duties, Kim is responsible for training Cooper's ever-increasing design staff. This one-day class is the core of the rigorous in-house training Kim developed for Cooper. Prior to joining Cooper, Kim worked as Creative Director for HealthDesk, a small multimedia software company. Kim's background in art and education led her to Cooper, where others share in her belief that products should provide both power and pleasure to the people who use them.

Karen Holtzblatt is the visionary behind InContext's unique design approach. Karen's combination of technological and psychological expertise provides the creative framework for driving the development innovative designs and design processes. Recognized as a leader in the design community, Karen has pioneered transformative ideas and design approaches throughout her career. At Digital Equipment Corporation Karen introduced Contextual Inquiry ÷ the industry standard for gathering field data to understand how technology impacts the way people work. Contextual Inquiry forms the base of Contextual Design, InContext's full customer-centered design process. Karen co-founded InContext Enterprises in 1992, coaching product teams throughout the industry in design based on customer data. Karen has more than 20 years of teaching experience, professionally and in university settings. She holds a doctorate in applied psychology from the University of Toronto. She is co-author of Contextual Design: A Customer-Centered Approach to Systems Designs.

Peter Merholz and several colleagues including Jeffrey Veen recently started Adaptive Path, a consulting firm committed to advancing the art of user experience development. Before joining Adaptive Path, Peter Merholz served as Creative Director at Epinions.com, where his team developed a best-of-breed information resource and community site. Peter has also worked with Walmart.com, Studio Archetype, Organic, iXL, and Voyager, ensuring the incorporation of user-centered design principles that meet business needs. Peter's published articles include features for Internet World and Webmonkey, and he has spoken and served on the board of Web design and information architecture conferences. He publishes peterme.com, where he regularly discusses the business value of user experience.
Rolf Molich owns and manages DialogDesign, a small Danish usability consultancy. Rolf conceived and coordinated the comparative usability evaluation studies CUE-1 and CUE-2 where 13 professional usability teams tested the same application. Rolf was a principal investigator in the Nielsen Norman Group's recent large scale usability test of 20 US E-Commerce websites involving more than 60 users. Rolf has worked with usability since 1984; he is the co-inventor of the heuristic inspection method (with Jakob Nielsen) and the author of the best-selling Danish book User Friendly Computer Systems of which 20,000 copies have been sold.
Kevin Mullet is a Fellow in the User-Centered Design Group at Propel. Kevin brings extensive expertise in User Experience research and design to Propel, having spent over 11 years on the forefront of this field. Most recently, he was the design director at Scoutfire, a company focused on helping consumers locate and track information on the World Wide Web. Prior to Scoutfire, Kevin was the UI architect and manager for the UI Design Group at Icarian, Inc., where he designed a system of interlocking Web-based applications for workforce management and B2B exchanges used by AMD, Texas Instruments, KLA-Tencor, and Kaiser-Permanente. Kevin has written and lectured widely on User Experience research and design. His courses have been presented at the UC Berkeley and UCLA extensions, the University of Tampere in Finland and numerous professional organizations, conferences, and corporate training centers worldwide. Kevin holds B.S. and M.A. degrees in Industrial Design from Ohio State University.
Mark Pearrow, author of the popular Web Site Usability Handbook, became interested in usability after a harrowing experience with the Microsoft Support web site. In the past, he's been an academic coordinator for Northeastern University's cutting-edge State-of-the-Art program, where he designed many of the core classes for Web and Internet certification. He has also taught numerous courses for Northeastern, including TMG5306: Web Site Usability, which he developed. He has also served as a sponsored research staff member at both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Laboratory for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His new book Wireless Web Usability Handbook will be published in September 2001. He currently works for iPhrase Technologies in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Catherine Plaisant is Associate Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. Dr. Plaisant has a engineering background from France and has been a successful user interface designer and researcher for 15 years. In 1988 she joined Professor Ben Shneiderman at the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of the University of Maryland.

Dr. Ben Shneiderman is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Founding Director (1983-2000) of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory, and Member of the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies and the Institute for Systems Research, all at the University of Maryland at College Park. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Spotfire whose products are based on his dynamic queries and starfield display research in information visualization. Dr. Shneiderman is also a Computer Science Advisor to Smartmoney which implemented marketmap, a variant of his treemap concept. Dr. Shneiderman is the author of Designing the User Interface: Strategies for Effective Human-Computer Interaction (Third Edition, 1998) and co-editor of Readings in Information Visualization: Using Vision to Think (1999). He was recently awarded the CHI Lifetime Achievement Award.
Erric Solomon is Group Director of the Interactive Visualization Group at Synopsys. The mission of the group, which he founded, is to provide and promote improved user interfaces, enhanced visualization and common look and feel across the Synopsys product line. Erric has an extensive background in user interfaces and visualization, beginning as an intern at the Logo Group at MIT's Artificial Intelligence Lab and continuing as an early employee of Logo Computers Systems Inc., which created computing environments for children. In 1983, he joined a team of researchers under the direction of Nicholas Negroponte at the Centre Mondial Informatique et Resource Humaine, Paris, where he taught French speaking educators about using computers with kids. In 1987, Erric made the decision to join a small Electronic Design Automation startup, which developed his interest in creating tools for hardware engineers. He joined Synopsys in 1993.

Jared M. Spool, a software developer and programmer, founded User Interface Engineering in 1988. He has more than 19 years of experience conducting usability evaluations on a variety of products, and is an expert in low-fidelity prototyping, designing for web site usability, documentation usability, and product branding. Jared is on the faculty of the Tufts University Gordon Institute and teaches seminars on product usability. He is a member of SIGCHI, the Usability Professionals Association, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Jared is a recognized authority on user interface design and human factors in computing. He is a popular conference speaker. In addition to presenting at Seybold, Comdex, and C|Net, Jared is a regular speaker at the annual CHI conference and Society for Technical Communication conferences around the country.

Jeffrey Veen and several colleagues including Peter Merholz recently started Adaptive Path, a consulting firm committed to advancing the art of user experience development. Jeff is an internationally sought-after speaker, author and user experience consultant. As the Executive Interface Director for Wired Digital, he managed the look and feel of HotWired, the HotBot search engine, Wired News and others. He specializes in the integration of content, graphic design and technology from a user-centered perspective. Jeffrey has been active with the World Wide Web Consortium's CSS Editorial Review Board as an invited expert on electronic publishing. He is also a columnist for Webmonkey, the author of the acclaimed books, The Art & Science of Web Design and HotWired Style: Principles for Building Smart Web Sites. In 1998, Jeffrey was named by CNet as one of the "First Annual Web Innovators."
